Microsoft's Newest Offering Codenamed "Surface Cardinal" Is Rumored To Be An All-In-One Modular PC

Microsoft is planning to unveil its new offering in their Surface brand this late October and according to rumors, it will be an all-in-one modular PC. Dubbed as Surface Cardinal by Zdnet, the new device will sport high specifications comparable to high end PCs. The Surface Cardinal is said to be available in three size variants namely 21-inch, 24-inch and 27-inch models, as reported by The Verge.

According to Venture Beat, Microsoft has been in the works of developing modular PC and already patented some of its progress. This suggests that the new product in the Surface line might possess modular features. Modular PCs gives the consumers the ease to conveniently swap out hardware components of the PC. This innovation provides more flexibility to PC users to customize the perfect desktop environment that will fits their needs.

Hardcore gamers and graphic designers could swap their video and graphics cards to optimize more graphic rendering. Audiophile could swap speaker components for a better music consumption. Damaged components could also be replaced even the use has no prior technical knowledge in hardware servicing. Modular device was previousy popularized by Google's Project Ara for smartphones however the it did not make the cut after Google streamlined projects in its hardware division.

This move will also pave way for more profit in Microsoft's side, since individual computer components manufacturers have to partner with windows in "modularizing" their hardware components to match it with Surface Cardinal.

Microsoft wants to create a new breed of computer device, a modular all-in one PC, to target offices, schools, institutions and business establishments. It will also attract professional individuals who still prefer a full pledge desktop lying neatly on an office table.

Surface Cardinal might also include hardware components that will complement of the company's augmented reality headgear. It will also most likely run the updated version of Windows 10 out of the box. The unofficial date of release of Surface Cardinal  will be on the last week of October and Microsoft might soon its official date anytime soon.
