Getting old is bad enough, especially if you are constantly sick and starting to feel like a hassle to your relatives. However, a Massachusetts woman had it even worse - she was somehow forgotten at a dialysis clinic.

According to ABC News, the woman, Maureen Perry somehow ended up getting locked inside the clinic on Saturday, hours after the staff had gone home. Perry's daughter, Pam Crosby said about her mother's experience, "She's shaken, but got her all cleaned up put her in bed."

Hours before Maureen was rescued, her granddaughter, Erica Crosby, stood outside the dialysis center, taking a photo of her, alone, apparently forgotten, and locked inside. Erica shared, "At first, I was enraged, then concerned, and then disgusted. I couldn't believe it."

Maureen had her dialysis in the Fresenius Dialysis Clinic on Merrimack Street in Methuen, which had been closed for three hours before anyone noticed she hasn't returned to her rehab facility yet - and the rehab center was the one to alert the family. Temporarily bedridden, Maureen uses ambulance services to go back and forth the rehab center and dialysis clinic, but when the ambulance company told Maureen's family that the facility was locked up when their people arrived, the family decided to take a drive.

"I called 911 and I said, 'I can't believe I am about to report this, but my grandmother is locked in the dialysis center,'" Erica said. As a nurse herself, she had a hard time wrapping her head around the fact that someone could forget her grandmother. "I am in healthcare and this is disgusting, absolutely disgusting. Someone needs to be held accountable for this. This is absolutely not okay."

The medical center provided a statement the following day, saying, "Our patients' care and safety are our top priorities. This is an issue of great concern and we are looking into the matter." CBS News noted that Methuen Police contacted the state Department of Elder Affiars, but the agency said that they are not going to investigate, considering that it wasn't a neglect or abuse case.
