GoPro Hero5 will carry a new built-in GPS feature that may entice users to replace their GoPro Hero4. There is no clear indication as to how the GPS feature could be utilized but it is expected to keep track of where videos and photos are captured, which is the same as how geo tagging works on smartphone cameras.

The FCC filing clearly states that the GoPro Hero5 will equip a Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Low Energy and will also operate with 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. The FCC filing also teases that GoPro Hero5 will carry a thinner and lighter body, Engadget reported. The smaller and lighter body of GoPro Hero5 may be appeal to some users. However, with regard to its accessories, users may need to purchase brand new ones as the current accessories may not be compatible.

The user interface of GoPro Hero5 is expected to be upgraded and will probably be the biggest change from GoPro's current lineup. It will have a redesigned touchscreen interface that would make navigation through the camera's modes and settings easier.

Previously, an alleged GoPro Hero5 tutorial video surfaced which initially revealed the new touchscreen interface. The video shows that users just need to simply slide down from the top of the screen in order to bring up options for wireless connectivity, microphone, preference and connections to other accessories and the GoPro App.

The GoPro Hero5 tutorial video also shows that there is a new connectivity option called GoPro Sniper. No confirmation have been reported yet on what GoPro Sniper is, but it is suggested to be a new type of accessory for capturing videos from a distance as the name suggests. Some reports claim that it may also be for the Karma, GoPro's upcoming drone.

GoPro Hero5 is set to be released as early as September or as late as December, Mobile & Apps reported. However, GoPro has not made any official announcements about its release as of this posting.
