A man on the Gatwick Express in London was killed when he stuck his head out a train window. He died instantly after sustaining serious head injuries just after 5:30 PM last Sunday.

ITV News noted that a London Ambulance Service Spokesperson said, that they were called to report a man hit by a train, but when they arrived, he was already pronounced dead at the scene by doctors. There have been reports on social media that the man was decapitated, but this simply isn't true, said the British Transport Police.

A spokesman said, "Emergency services rushed to the scene but despite their best efforts, nothing could be done to save him. Our investigation remains at an early stage, but initial enquiries suggest the man may have been leaning out of a train door window when he suffered a blow to the head."

Police later confirmed that the man was a 24-year-old from East Grinstead, Sussex, but he has not been identified by name yet as his next of kin is still being informed. An onlooker said that the man's head "flew off." The witness, known only for her first name, Rihanna, shared, "The head flew off basically. I actually ran because it was disgusting but all I saw was a head (that) flew away. People screamed, the train stopped and people were screaming and they were coming out."

Despite her account of the traumatizing event, police have been keen on saying that this is not the case, however his injuries were serious. According to the Daily Mail, officers stated that "The death is being treated as non-suspicious and the circumstances, including what caused the head injuries, are still being investigated."

The incident is still being investigated, but police said that initial findings noted that the man may have been "leaning out a train door window when he suffered a blow to the head." Following the incident, several officers were seen carrying a man's body wrapped in a blanket to the back of a private ambulance, and the Gatwick Express service had been disrupted along the southern routes, including ones from Victoria to East Grinstead, Brighton, Bognor Regis, and Hastings.
