A new version of Chrome for Android has been introduced featuring major changes to the process of loading video content in the mobile browser. Google has adjusted Chrome for Android version 52 to improve its playback speed and battery consumption.

Web videos are now expected to start playing quickly instead of pausing to load initially. In a demonstration video posted by Google, Chrome for Android 52 loads a YouTube video five times faster than before, Slash Gear reported. The video playback is also noticeably smoother than the previous version.

Google also claims that Chrome for Android 52 video playback is more battery efficient, which means that batteries will last longer as a result of faster loading of videos. The HTML5 video is also suggested to work with Chrome's Data Saver Mode to save up to 50 percent of data by streaming a lightweight version of the video.

Google is reportedly planning to apply similar changes for the Chrome desktop equivalent after it received bad reviews from users. Microsoft and Opera have both pointed out how bad Chrome is bad for the laptop's battery. Microsoft has previously created two tests to measure the power consumption by browsers wherein it was demonstrated that Chrome lasts for just four hours and 19 minutes on the streaming video test, compared to seven hours and 22 minutes for Microsoft's Edge browser, The Verge reported.

Google is reportedly fixing parts of its Chrome browser and said that they have made a 33 percent improvement in the video playback GPU/CPU power consumption on Windows 10 since the beginning of the year. The company added that they feel confident that they will be at par with other browsers in terms of power consumption for the majority of web videos playback. Chrome for Android 52 is expected to be rolling out this week. On the other hand, Chrome 53, the desktop version, is reportedly scheduled for release early next month.
