One of the things most people have to endure is the daily commutes to and from work. For the average commuter, there is nothing more to do than sit down and wait for their stop before arriving at their destination-time which could be better spent being productive. The new, modern trains that will be arriving in New York subway stations can soon change that.

New York has a 5-year plan in overhauling the New York subway system worth $27 billion with modern trains that can facilitate productivity for commuters. The 1,025 new subway cars will feature informative digital screens, better security features, WiFi and USB charging ports, which can also be found in the subway stations.

"People want to work, and they want their device to work 24 hours a day," said Governor Andrew Cuomo. "They don't want to have to look up. There has to be WiFi, and there need to be charging ports."

The cars themselves will enable more passengers to board the train with accordion-style connectors between cars and wider door openings at about 50 to 58 inches to facilitate more traffic as commuters board and disembark.

"The MTA design team developed a bold and visionary reimagining of the quintessential commuter experience, incorporating best practices from global transit systems, and focusing on our core mission to renew, enhance and expand," Governor Cuomo added.

All subway stations will also experience an overhaul in terms of design with a unified design standard and will start with major renovations in 31 key stations in the city. The design will also keep in mind the stations' "architectural legacy." After the success of the first phase of renovations, the government plans to extend the changes to the next 170 stations.

For now, while commuters wait for the plan to come to effect, the government has provided them with WiFi-ready busses in Queens in line with the city's LinkNYC smart kiosk plan.
