Microsoft Edge is currently the most power-efficient browser. This is according to the Microsoft, saying that anyone with knowledge about battery-powered devices would know that every second matters.

To prove the efficiency of Microsoft Edge, Redmond used four Surface Books to stream a high-definition wireless video on every device by using Chrome, Firefox, Opera and Edge.  Based on its average power consumption, the Edge was placed in the lead, while Chrome came in second, Opera - with enabled battery-saver mode came in third and Firefox was in fourth place.

The Microsoft Edge worked for three hours longer compared to Google Chrome. According to the company's blog post, it is long enough to complete the last movie in any favorite trilogy, while the other rivals stalls out in the middle of the viewing period. The test results would mean that Microsoft Edge lasts longer than the rest and delivered 17 percent up to 70 percent more battery life compared to its competitors.

In a different post, Microsoft commits to providing more improvements to power efficiency in the new Windows 10 Anniversary update. This will include Flash running in a different process, more efficient background tabs, and an optimized user interface as well as networking.

According to program manager Brandon Heenan of Microsoft, the company is not done yet in term of energy efficiency, but they promise to continue the level of investment over the upcoming releases. Based on the information given by members of Windows Insider who can already preview the improvements, the update is set for public release in summer, according to Microsoft.

Meanwhile, it was a year ago when Google made a promise to bring a ton of improvements to enable browsing with the use of less power and less memory through Chrome 45. Also, Chrome will allow the users to continue where they left off, or go back to the tab they were searching for when they last closed the browser. However, it seems like a labor-intensive, which means with Chrome 45, tabs will be restored from the most up to the least recently viewed in order for the users to see the most important tabs faster, according to Windows Central.
