Sony has officially confirmed that there will be indeed a PlayStation NEO but the bad news is that the much talked about game console will not be around when E3 comes around.

The existence of the Sony PlayStation NEO (also known as the Sony PS4K or PS 4.5) was confirmed no less by company PlayStation chief Andrew House via the Financial Times. And while many are eagerly expecting the game console to be out as early as the E3 this Monday, it looks like this special version is not yet ready for release.

While House did not bear any specifics, he did mention that the Sony NEO will be cost more than the current PS4 available in the market. He added that the upcoming Sony PS4.5 was something meant to complement the standard PS4 and not replace it.

As far as the games which may be played on it, House expects practically all and new games to be playable on the PS4K, calling the game console more of an upgraded PS4.

Advantage Microsoft

While the confirmation of House does set the records a bit on the consumer interest, it may also release pressure on Sony’s competitors.

E3 is expected to host a lot of new games and consoles starting June 14 and one the companies who could use this to their advantage is Microsoft. The belief was the Microsoft was seriously considering unveiling the Microsoft Xbox Scorpio in the light of rumors that a Sony PS Neo could be in the spotlight.

With the Sony PS Neo out of the way, Microsoft can instead show its Xbox One Slim. This is a big load off its shoulders since Microsoft will no longer have to plan on how to balance the attention with two game consoles at E3.

There is still a chance that Micrsoft could still show off the Xbox Scorpio to gain some leverage in the game console sector.

Sony PS NEO no longer coming in the Fall

With House dousing water over speculations that the Sony PS NEO at the E3, does this mean the game console will not be available as will in the Fall?

Taking the remaining time (3 months) and the fact that no word (or rumor) has ramped up, the probability of seeing one is not looking good.
