NASA 75th Anniversary Opens Plum Brook Weekend Facility Free Tour, IDs Required For Admission, No Vehicle Parking Nearby

NASA weekend tour is going to take place in Glenn Research Center, Plum Brook Station located in Sandusky. Facilities, where shuttles and rockets that are going to be used in the next space missions, will be unveiled to the public, as well as those devices that are to be used on the next space travel. The tours were made as a commemoration of NASA's 75th anniversary.

The tour is the first open house since 2008 at Plum Brook, a 6,400 acre testing grounds located in Perkins Township, Cleveland reported. The buildings included in the tour are the Space Power Facility where the world's largest vacuum chamber can be observed. It is a testing area for Shuttle parts, Mars landers, and most recently, the Orion spacecraft. Another facility included in the show list is the Spacecraft Propulsion Research Facility known as B-2, a full-scale rocket engine and stage test simulation facility.

NASA weekend tour will start at 10 am at the nearby Kalahari Convention Centre, but visitors have to remember that vehicle parking will not be allowed near Plum Brook. Attendees are allowed to view exhibits and talk with NASA scientists before boarding the shuttle buses going to Plum Brook. The convention centre will provide interactive activities to kids, The Blade reported.

One of the speakers is NASA astronaut Sunita Williams from Euclid, who will impart her experience for 322 days in space at 2pm each day. Williams boarded both space shuttle and Russian Soyuz spacecraft, a record holder for the longest cumulative spacewalk of 50 hours and 40 minutes done by a female astronaut.

NASA weekend tours at Plum Brook are free. The facility is open to US citizen attendees, where required ID's are government issued with photo, as well as a second ID that includes a green card. Children below 18 do not need a photo ID provided that they are accompanied by an adult with the same credentials.
