Genetically modified food is safe. The findings were based on the analysis report released by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine, which indicated that genetically engineered food brings no signs of health risks.

The genetically modified food has been found with no traces of evidence of adverse effects to the human health. According to the study committee, they carefully looked for persuasive signs that can be directly linked to the GE crops, yet found nothing. The committee also stated that the studies conducted in animals, including extensive research about the chemical composition found on genetically modified food available on the market revealed no differences that could suggest an increased threat to human safety and health compared to the consumption of non genetically modified food.

Genetically modified food have even given much advantage to the people, according to the study. With crops being engineered to endure the bugs, it reduces the incidence of poisoning caused by insecticides. Also, the crops that were modified to give more vitamin A could stop the incidence of blindness and even death as a result of vitamin A deficiency.

In addition to this, the report also found no indication of environmental concerns that can be credited to the genetically modified food, although it took note of the increasing problem regarding pesticide resistance. According to the committee, some weeds have become resistant to glyphosate, the herbicide which majority of the genetically modified crops have been engineered to be immune, CBS News reported.

In spite of the findings, study committee chairman Fred Gould stressed out the necessity of the continued probe over the possible effects that could appear later.

Calls for genetically modified food labelling have been pushed by some advocates, despite the report analysis, which suggests that this would not be needed. Meanwhile, Campbell Soup and General Mills responded to the call and started to label their products, which were made with ingredients that were genetically modified, USAToday reported.
