Parents are now kissing goodbye the iTunes Allowances after Apple has finally announced that it will end the feature that allows kids to buy items on the App Store or iTunes using an allocated amount from the parents' credit cards..

According to a post on eWeek, the great thing about this iTunes Allowances is that parents could actually put some funds into a dedicated online iTunes account automatically so that their children could purchase any music they want for their iPads, iPods, iPhones, or pc. This is indeed a great way for parents to teach their kids a sense of responsibility while giving them some freedom in building their own digital music library.

Nevertheless, Apple had never stated the big reason why it is putting an end to iTunes Allowances. Perhaps, the company is pushing yet another cool feature, the Family Sharing that allows parents to oversee the procurements of their kids.

The Family Sharing feature lets six people share content without having to share their accounts. Family members can easily access content shared with one another, which include pictures as well as purchases done on iBooks, iTunes and the App Store as cited on TechTimes.

The following is a very simple guide in setting up Family Sharing.

  • Select the Family Organizer

Choosing the family's organizer serves as the first step. Through this organizer, invites will be sent to 5 family members for approval. The organizer is the one to pay for any procurement made by family members.

  • Access Family Sharing

For Mac, just go to the Apple menu, select System Preferences, choose iCloud and then select Set Up Family. For iOS, simply go to Settings, then select iCloud, and then choose Set Up Family Sharing.

  • Attach Your Credit Card

Family organizers will be prompted directly to a link where one can be able to pay for the purchases of the family.

  • Start Adding Your Family Members

Just by entering their Apple IDs, the organizer can be able to send invites up to 5 other users to become part of the family. Parents who are being added to the family can also be able to approve purchases done by kids. The organizer can likewise turn on the Ask to Buy feature for the kids.

By simply following these easy steps, setting up Family Sharing is finished.
