Top Weird Science and Tech Stories from 2015
This year has definitely been one for the record books in science-and we've been keeping track. From sex robots to a massive battle bot and more, this year has definitely been weird for tech. Now, we're listing the top five weird science stories from 2015.
There are few things as disturbing as a robot that's taught moves from a master samurai swordsman. But that's exactly one of the things that happened this year. The robot actually competed against the master swordsman, Isao Machii, a five-time world record holder in the art of iaijyutsu, and actually won.
This year, astronauts on the International Space Station received a bit of a treat: espresso. A specially-designed cup that could keep liquid inside of it by operating through siphon action was sent to the ISS this year so that astronauts could get their shot of caffeine in the morning.
Robots are getting into the dating field these days. The creators of RealDoll announced that they're in the process of creating the first sexbot with artificial intelligence in order to please customers. The creators are focusing on a robotic head that can blink and open and close its mouth, and also respond when someone talks to it.
4. Biohacker Gets Night Vision
It's not just robots that are getting upgrades. People are getting them, as well. This year, a team of biohackers from California induced a temporary sense of night vision by injecting a chemical cocktail directly into a volunteer's eye.
What's almost as weird as a sex robot? Robot reindeer, of course. The scientists at Boston Dynamics created a video that showed off their quadruped robots as reindeer of all things. The jury is still out on whether or not Santa will decide to switch from biological reindeer to robots.
