For men, nothing is sacred when it comes to sex. Their brains just crave the most disgusting, bizarre and dangerous debauchery. And of course, science proves it.

Recent findings published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine show that male sexual fantasies may ultimately be a reason why pornography is the most popular subject for internet searches. But what distinguishes certain sexual fantasies from being normal and crossing the line?

"Our main objective was to specify norms in sexual fantasies - an essential step in defining pathologies. As we suspected, there are a lot more common fantasies than atypical fantasies," said lead study author Christian Joyal from Institut universitaire en sante mentale de Montreal, University of Montreal, in a news release. Of course, that doesn't mean there aren't some of the more "unusual", too--particularly among male counterparts.

For the study, researchers conducted a survey on the general population, involving 799 men and 718 women from Quebec with a mean age of 30. All participants were required to describe their sexual fantasies based on a questionnaire, including their favorite fantasy.

Findings revealed that the nature of fantasies varied greatly among the general population, with few rare or atypical fantasies among the mix.

However, the study did confirm usual stereotypes of men having more fantasies in general, more explicit fantasies and more fantasies than women.

The study results showed that while women expressed more fantasies of submission, such as domination by a stranger, more men were adamant about weird sexual fantasies coming true, including sex with an animal, under-age individual, more than one woman at a single sexual-encounter, etc.

"As expected, the presence of one's significant other is considerably stronger in female fantasies than in male fantasies. In general, men fantasize much more about extramarital relationships compared to women," researchers concluded.

Researchers also compared the findings to certain social phenoma found in the popular book "Fifty Shades of Grey" by E. L. James, highlighting controversial pathological sexual fantasies about non-consenting partners.

However, evoluationary biological theories cannot explain all of these fantasies.
