A nationwide recall on baby-wipes has been made by Nutek Disposables, warning consumers that certain packages may contain bacteria.

According to CNN, Nutek issued the nationwide recall after receiving numerous complaints regarding both smell and discoloration of the products. The company also discovered that some products contained Burkholderia cepacia (B. cepacia), a bacteria that can be resistant to some antibiotics.

The company has also received complaints regarding such symptoms as rash, general irritation, respiratory problems and gastrointestinal issues. However, at this time, it is still unclear whether these issues are directly related to the bacteria in the wipes.

The brands recalled include the following, courtesy of Syracuse.com: Cuties, Diapers.com, Femtex (sold at Family Dollar), Fred's, Kidgets (Family Dollar), Member's Mark (Sam's Club), Simply Right (Sam's Club), Sunny Smiles (Walgreens), Tender Touch and Well Beginnings (Walgreens).

The type of bacteria described by the recall can be particularly dangerous as it can survive in wet environments for a relatively long period of time. While healthy individuals are generally not at risk to become infected by B. cepacia, those with weakened immune systems or lung disease can become infected, leading to pneumonia and other health issues.

AT this time, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is currently investigating the cause of the problem and has stopped shipping baby wipes from the facility. Furthermore, the company is also working with distributors and retailers to further address the health issue.

For any questions or concerns regarding the product, officials advise consumers to contact the company at 1-855-646-4351, Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. EDT.
