Sixdog Investment voluntarily recalled some cases of their certified organic eggs due to a possible Salmonella contamination.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced that Sixdog Investment voluntarily recalled  certified organic eggs sold under brand name Owl Canyon because of possibility of contamination with Salmonella that causes fatal infection of the intestines.

The voluntarily field action was done after routine testing results and not any major outbreak of illness after the consumption of eggs.

Some of the cases have reached Idaho, Kansas, New Mexico and Utah.  The product was distributed through retail outlets.

"The products in question will have a packing date of 93, 94, 97, or 98; an expiration date of "051814", "051914", "052214", or "052314"; they will also include a location code of 1 or 3. All this information is on the package, located on a white sticker on the end of each carton," according to the news release.

The company is confident that the rest of the products that are being sent out with other packing codes other than the ones mentioned above are completely safe for consumption.  Till date no illness has been reported.

It was during the routine test that it was revealed a few of the finished products from certain bars could possibly be contaminated with bacteria.  The company ceased production and took immediate action to rectify the threat.

Salmonella is an organism that triggers serious and fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people who have a weakened immune system. The infection causes fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In very rare cases, infection with Salmonella results in organism entering into the bloodstream and triggering severe illness like arterial infections and arthritis.
