A groundbreaking research claims that Emu oil has the potential to lower the rates of bowel cancer.

The strange looking flightless bird Emu lives in mainland. The fat present on the top layer of its back processed and refined into oil. For years, people have claimed that the natural health benefits of emu oil include aiding new hair growth, preventing skin peel after sunburns and healing skin diseases.

In the current study, Dr Suzanne Mashtoub from the School of Medicine and Pharmacology at the University of Western Australia is investigating whether emu oil can be taken orally to treat bowel diseases which further leads to the onset of bowel cancer.  She is one of the few researchers who are working towards using emu oil as an internal treatment for bowel diseases.

"My primary aim with this research is to investigate whether emu oil can reduce inflammation and repair damage in the bowel caused by ulcerative colitis, and subsequently monitor if we can then prevent the development of bowel cancer," Dr Mashtoub said in a news statement.

For over thousand years, our ancestors have been using emu oil to cure pains and studies recently have highlighted that emu oil has the potential to even treat inflammatory skin conditions such as arthritis.

Though the research is due to be completed early next year, the researcher strongly believes emu oil taken orally will offer a positive impact to those suffering from incurable conditions.

"I'm also looking at experimenting with different batches of emu oil and making sure that the efficacy of emu oil is consistent regardless of where it comes from."

Emu oil is also consumed to lower cholesterol levels and weight loss. It is applied in the nasal region to treat cold and flu. The oil is at times used in combination with glycolic acid.
