Hawaii Surfer Survives Shark Attack By Repeatedly Punching The Fish in the Face

A Hawaii surfer survives an unbelievable shark attack near Kilauea and tells us a tale of his battle with a 3-meter-long shark.

Jeff Horton, 25-year-old Hawaii surfer, was enjoying surfing along with 10 other people near Kilauea. After three hours, he noticed a shark fin at a distance that was coming towards the surfboard from the left.

At first, he  assumed that the creature was a stingray because it was dark on top and white on the bottom. Within seconds, the shark clamped down on Horton's surfboard, knocking him down.

"I had my feet dangling in the water under my surfboard. My instinct was like whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa and this thing comes up and I yanked my foot up right as it took the bite. It bit my surfboard and missed my foot and it flipped me and I rolled on top of it," he told KHON2.

Horton is a former boxer. He held a fin with one hand and delivered repeated punches on the predators face causing puncture wounds and a final knuckle punch into the shark eyes.

On repeated attack by Horton, the shark spat-out a chunk of the surf board and flung Horton into the air. Horton immediately scrambled back on his board and with the help of fellow surfers he grabbed a wave and paddled for shore. The defeated shark didn't give-in and followed the surfers for some time but disappeared in the waves.

Horton was quoted in Associated press saying, "It's exciting. I like to live on the edge. I like to surf good-sized waves and do things that scare me a little bite. It makes me feel alive, so when I saw the shark, I was like..Aww, there it is. That's the footage I've wanted to get. I will pursue this shark a little bit. I didn't know he would pursue me."

The surfer 7-foot yellow board had semi circle imprint of the shark's jaw and he plans to mount this on his wall.
