Fusion power is the power generated by nuclear fusion processes. In fusion reactions two light atomic nuclei fuse together to form a heavier nucleus (in contrast with fission power). In doing so they release a comparatively large amount of energy arising from the binding energy due to the strong nuclear force which is manifested as an increase in temperature of the reactants. Fusion power is a primary area of research in plasma physics. Read more on wikipedia
Scientists around the world are looking at multiple methods of bringing the stars down to earth, and one of the main alternatives is known as a stellarator.
GÉANT is supplying a 10 Gbps link to connect Helios supercomputer with scientists involved in ITER and DEMO
A new aerial view of the ITER fusion reactor construction site shows the four-hectare electrical switchyard that is in place now and ongoing construction nearly everywhere. 500 people currently work from the completed Headquarters building.
The brand-new headquarter building of the ITER fusion research program was officially inaugurated today, located right beside the gigantic fusion reactor that is currently being constructed at the site. For the occasion, the European Union's Commissioner for Energy Günther Oettinger and the French ...
Several of the partner countries that are currently building the international experimental fusion reactor ITER, including the EU, China, Japan and India are already contemplating their own demonstration facilities as the next step toward commercial fusion power. Korea is also doing so with K-DEMO, ...
ITER, the world's first reactor-scale fusion machine, will have a plasma volume more than 10 times that of the next largest tokamak, JET. Which also means that problems in controlling the inherently unstable, super-heated plasma are 10 times more delicate.
The contract for largest cryogenic plant (cryoplant) infrastructure ever built was signed in Dec 2012 by the ITER organization. The EUR 83 million Liquid Helium Plant is needed to cool the massive superconducting magnet coils, and other elements, of the experimental fusion reactor ITER.
